About the treatment
How it works
As we age the face loses fat, bone support and collagen, and areas that were once full can flatten or hollow. Dermal filler is a smooth gel, placed beneath the skin, that replaces some of that lost volume or adds definition to a feature such as the lips, chin or jawline.
The fillers we use are made from hyaluronic acid, which binds water and integrates with your own tissue. They break down gradually over time, and they can be dissolved if needed. We prefer to build a result conservatively, starting with a small amount and reviewing it once it has settled.
Your appointment
What happens, step by step
Consultation
We talk through your concerns and medical history, examine the area and explain your options, the cost and the risks. You can take time to think it over.
Preparation
On the day we confirm your consent, take photographs for your record, and cleanse the skin.
Treatment
Numbing cream is applied, then filler is placed with a fine needle or a blunt cannula, depending on the area. We check symmetry with you as we go.
Afterwards
You leave with written aftercare advice and our number. We check how you have settled at a review if one is needed.

Questions
Frequently asked
What are dermal fillers made of?
The fillers we use for this treatment are based on hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and holds water.
How long does it last?
It depends on the area, the product and your metabolism. As a guide, 6 to 18 months. Lips tend to need topping up sooner than cheeks or jawline.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful. We apply numbing cream beforehand, and most fillers also contain a local anaesthetic.
What are the side effects?
Redness, swelling and bruising at the injection sites are common and usually settle within a few days. Rarer, more serious risks exist with any filler treatment, and we explain them fully at your consultation before you decide.
Can filler be dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed.
What is the difference between filler and anti-wrinkle treatment?
Filler adds volume and structure. Anti-wrinkle treatment relaxes the muscles that create expression lines. They address different concerns and are often used together.
