About the treatment
How it works
Polynucleotides are chains of purified DNA fragments. When injected into the skin they act as a signal to the cells that produce collagen and elastin, and they help calm inflammation.
They improve the condition of the skin over a course of treatments, without adding volume. That makes them a useful option for the thin skin under the eyes, where filler is not always suitable, and for texture, scarring and general skin quality elsewhere. We use Plenhyage.
Your appointment
What happens, step by step
Consultation
We talk through your concerns and medical history, examine the area and explain your options, the cost and the risks. You can take time to think it over.
Preparation
On the day we confirm your consent, take photographs for your record, and cleanse the skin.
Treatment
After numbing cream, the product is placed with a fine needle or cannula across the area being treated.
Afterwards
You leave with written aftercare advice and our number. We check how you have settled at a review if one is needed.
Before
Preparing for your appointment
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment
- Tell us about any medication or supplements you take, including blood thinners. Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to your GP
- Let us know if you are unwell, have a skin infection or a cold sore in the area, as we may need to rebook
- Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as treatment is not carried out during this time
- Come with clean skin and no make-up on the area if you can
- Tell us if you have a fish allergy, as polynucleotides are derived from fish DNA
After
Looking after yourself afterwards
- Small bumps at the injection points are normal and usually settle within a day or two
- Leave make-up off for the rest of the day
- Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and steam rooms for 24 hours
- Wear sunscreen daily
- Book your next session for around four weeks later

How is it given?
With fine-needle injections into the treatment area. Numbing cream can be applied first.
Is there downtime?
Redness, swelling or slight bruising, usually settling within a day or two.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically two or three, around four weeks apart, then maintenance every 6 to 12 months.
Is everyone suitable?
Most people are, but polynucleotides are derived from fish DNA, so tell us about any fish allergy at consultation.
