About the treatment
How it works
Ultraformer III delivers high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) through the skin to precise depths, including the layer that surgeons tighten in a facelift. The surface of the skin is not broken.
At each depth the energy creates tiny points of heat. The skin responds by tightening and producing new collagen over the following months. Different handpieces are used for lifting the face and neck and for firming or contouring areas of the body.
Your appointment
What happens, step by step
Consultation
We talk through your concerns and medical history, examine the area and explain your options, the cost and the risks. You can take time to think it over.
Preparation
On the day we confirm your consent, take photographs for your record, and cleanse the skin.
Treatment
Ultrasound gel is applied and the handpiece is moved across the area in lines. You may feel warmth and brief tingling, more so over bony areas.
Afterwards
You leave with written aftercare advice and our number. We check how you have settled at a review if one is needed.
Before
Preparing for your appointment
- Tell us about any medication you take, recent cosmetic treatments and any implants, fillers or metal in the area
- Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as treatment is not carried out during this time
- Come with clean skin and no make-up on the area
- Avoid strong sun and sunbeds on the area for two weeks before
After
Looking after yourself afterwards
- Mild redness or tenderness can last a few hours
- You can return to normal activities straight away
- Wear sunscreen daily
- Avoid very hot baths and saunas for 48 hours
- Results build gradually, so we review them with you at around three months

Frequently asked
Does it hurt?
You may feel warmth, tingling or a brief sharper sensation over bony areas. Numbing cream can be applied beforehand.
Who is it best suited to?
People with mild to moderate skin laxity. For more advanced laxity, surgery may give a better result, and we will say so at consultation.
Is there downtime?
Most people return to normal activities straight away. Mild redness or tenderness can last a few hours.
How many sessions will I need?
Often a single session, sometimes repeated after a few months depending on your goals.
